Artist Statement

I strive to make work that is imperfect and irresistible; to inhabit the place where skill meets loss of control. Like every one of us, my paintings contain flaws and imperfections.

Creating abstract art is the practice of becoming myself. I transpose emotions and sensorial experiences onto the canvas. I set an intention and work quickly and intuitively, in line, form and color, to capture my movement and presence. I paint with acrylic, charcoal, and graphite, and scrape into the wet surface with various tools to reveal the colors below in lyrical line work. In search of escapism, I revel in following an introspective path. I often have scant memory of painting many of my works. This is my state of bliss.

Only through the creation of art can I experience pure intellectual freedom. I can explore my mind and the places it travels without the judgement or the control of others. I paint to escape the constraints imposed upon me by people and society. My sensitivity to the world isn't a liability, it’s my superpower. It’s what makes me whole.
